The CSS Linked Parameters Module is cool. You can essentially pass parameters to SVGs that are embedded on the page using the image source or background image.

In a Windows contrast theme, a button styled only by background-color blends into the page.

Add this to your button class:
border: 1px solid transparent;

It's invisible in normal colours. Forced colours replace every border colour with a system colour, and transparent counts.
