A favorite of mine, the cone tooth fungus (Auriscalpium vulgare) bends outward and grows off of a fallen fir tree cone against distant evergreen huckleberry

The beautiful cone tooth fungus, scientifically known as Auriscalpium vulgare, grows from a fallen fir cone. Its fuzzy brown stipe grows at an angle parallel to the ground before turning straight up for about an inch, leading to its toothy light brown cap. The cap is circular with slightly rough edges. Tiny light brown teeth, each about a millimeter long, hang down and are packed tightly together. The background is a solid emerald green color. 📷 Canon R5 Canon RF 100mm f/2.8L IS USM M, f/4, 1/5, ISO 400 Stack of 50 images 11/21/24 Olympia area, Washington
