バージョン0.157.0から daemon_auto_start がデフォルトで有効になり、CLIを閉じた後も常駐して、1時間ごとに自動更新を確認するとのことです。更新時にGitリポジトリが読み取り専用になる不具合も報告されています。公式に止める方法はなく、config.toml で daemon_auto_start = false にする回避策があるそうです。
便利さより先に「何が裏で動くか」を知らされたいので、既定オフであってほしいです。
