Screenshot from article The issue was a pesky methyl group protruding from each molecule’s second stereocenter. We pulled out the modeling kits, but no flip or twist could make the direction of that methyl agree with the absolute stereochemistry depicted on CAS SciFinder. (CAS is a division of the American Chemical Society. ACS publishes C&EN but is not involved in editorial decisions.)
