The economic fallout of separation is a key argument: Alberta’s oil & gas sector relies on federal infrastructure, trade deals, and interprovincial cooperation. A split could disrupt supply chains, investment, and resource distribution. #cdnecon

Great review by Vanmala Subramanian for @theglobeandmail.com on the latest oligarchic musings (from Bill Gates) about taxing machines instead of billionaires: www.theglobeandmail.com/business/art.... Yes, AI could destroy many jobs--thru a financial meltdown, not by truly replacing humans. #cdnecon

Recent data from some new sector-based producer price indexes, developed by the BoC and released by STC, look a bit alarming. For sources, see the chart footnote. #cdnecon

Finances of the Nation is such a tremendous resource for teaching Public Finance. Today I am lecturing about Public Debt and it easily produced figures to tell the story about Canada's federal fiscal situation in the 1990s. #EconSky #TeachEcon #CdnEcon

Everyone agrees we need to build more housing. What’s so hard about doing it? Building housing takes a lot of money and a lot of time. The Bank’s role is to keep inflation around 2%, so people and businesses can confidently plan for the long term.

Long-term bond rates have risen sharply this year. Here's what has happened to federal interest payments on national debt in CA and US so far. Expect these ratios to go a lot higher as the debt turns over. #cdnecon

Real GDP was flat in July, STC reported today. One way to cut through the volatility in month-to-month real GDP growth rates is to focus on the 6-month % change expressed at annual rates. On that basis the economy has been performing quite well in recent months. #cdnecon

That’s close to DOUBLE the price Americans pay for diesel.

TWICE as much.

Things are so NOT great for folks – especially, not truckers.

The cost of living is poised to spiral totally out of control, exponentially, too.

Isn’t it, @mark-carney.bsky.social?
