3 years ago our friends who moved back to the UK sold their car to us way below market. There were no rentals, no car shares at that time and it opened up sports to my wife. That car died at 293k and we’re back to #carfree.

Keeping the sports but feel unburdened again. #yyc

So I went out and did the things I moved to a city to do, walking and bussing to do errands and grab coffee. It was a lovely warm fall day to walk. Think I’ll do it again tomorrow.

Merely switching to electric cars isn't going to fix the problem with cars. We must look at different ways of building our infrastructure so that we aren't dependent upon a 2 ton box of metal to move a 150 pound person.

From a spokes circular, 4.9.2024 Sep 20-22 EDINBURGH CAR-FREE EVENT The council has at last decided what to do in place of the last two years’ car-free festival. The High St from Old Fishmarket Close to Cockburn St will be closed to motor traffic 1000-1800 on Sep 20-22, with stalls in City Chambers quadrangle. There will be a Spokes stall all 3 days - possibly joint with Sustrans to ease staffing problems. A Bike Station stall is already promised.Car Free Festival September 2003; Review Executive of the Council 4 May 2004 Purpose of report 1 To report to the Executive on Edinburgh’s second Car Free Festival. Main report 2 The Executive of the Council agreed on 5 November 2002 to progress a Car Free Festival event in 2003. The event took place on Sunday 21 September, and was based in George Street. 3 The event addressed the following objectives: a To illustrate the ‘life quality’ benefits of car free streets. b To promote Edinburgh’s commitment to sustainable transport and investment in public transport. c To raise the profile of sustainable transport and influence travel behaviour. 4 The event engaged the public of all ages and included a range of arts entertainment, opportunities to participate in themed workshops and activities. Key themes included sustainable transport, health promotion and public realm improve ments for Edinburgh.
