The only Mazda built in Britain is largely forgotten nowadays. The third generation 121, launched in 1996, lacked any Mazda DNA, unlike its interesting predecessor. It was simply a badge-engineered version of the big-selling Ford Fiesta (mk4), rolling off the same line at Dagenham. #carbluesky

I know that a lot of why modern cars are designed the way they are is for regulatory reasons, but I personally prefer the rounded lines of classic designs. And it's not like we can't do them anymore, it's just that they've fallen out of fashion. Bring them back! #carbluesky

Studebaker's Gran Turismo Hawk was described as having 'the look and feel of Europe's fabulous road cars' in this 1964 brochure. The model had been restyled two years earlier by Brooks Stevens, who gave the GT sleeker lines and a Mercedes-like grille. #carbluesky

Turbocharging was all the rage in the early '80s, with some unlikely cars jumping on the bandwagon. The latest Nissan Cherry, a popular economy car in Britain, spawned this 112mph Turbo model, with 1.5-litre petrol turbo engine, plus a front spoiler, alloy wheels and black lower trim. #carbluesky

While 1981 was rather a grim year for the global economy and for new car sales, the pictures in this French Citroën brochure evoked more carefree days and simple joie de vivre. Times were still clearly good for those with the sense to enjoy the simple pleasures of a 2CV, Dyane or Méhari. #carbluesky
