* Bird species: Eurasian blue tit (Cyanistes caeruleus), identified by its cobalt blue crown, white cheeks, dark eye stripe, and yellow underparts.
* Shrub variety: Firethorn (Pyracantha), an evergreen hedge plant bearing dense clusters of vivid orange pomes alongside sharp woody spines.
* Seasonal activity: During October, blue tits inspect firethorn clusters for spiders, aphids, and small caterpillars sheltering amongst the berries, whilst also pecking at fruit pulp and seeds for energy.
* Natural shelter: The thick network of thorns and foliage provides essential cover, protecting the bird from coastal winds and garden predators such as sparrowhawks or domestic cats.
