David Harewood’s Maybe I Don’t Belong Here: A Memoir of Race, Identity, Breakdown and Recovery is excellent.   It resonated with me on many levels.  The book offers a powerful insight into his working-class upbringing and journey to Hollywood. #HonouringOurCommunities ##BHM2026 ##BlackHistoryMonth

This #BlackHistoryMonth #BHM2026 we’re highlighting a remarkable story from our Revolution 250 exhibition.

Scipio Handley was a free-born Black Loyalist, fisherman, Revolutionary War veteran, and spy. His story took him from revolutionary America to London’s growing early-modern Black community.

For #BHM2026, we’re #HonouringOurCommunities by celebrating Black LGBT+ community organising. The Gay Black Group formed in 1981 and helped pave the way for London’s Black Lesbian and Gay Centre, opened in 1985. 🖤✨

A black-and-white scan of an April 1987 Black Lesbian & Gay Centre newsletter. A large poster reads “Fight bigotry! Fight racism! Smash the Backlash!” and advertises a national demonstration on 2 May at Duckett’s Common, Turnpike Lane, against racism and anti-lesbian and gay discrimination. The right-hand column urges people to attend and bring friends, family and partners. The image is set on a border of the Black History Month flag.]
