Radie Peat - "Hares on the Mountain"

Learnt from Shirley Collins, sung steely and strange over a slow, heavy drone. Courtship as a world of animals, revenge turning into growth.

YAANG - "Leech"

A live staple finally on record: pulsing, jagged, a sober voice and a drunk one fighting over the same head. Their dancefloor call, and they won't ask twice.

World News - "Vinegar Swimming Pool"

A heavier riff, a bass line that won't budge, a rolled "prrrr" for a hook and a satnav voice reading out the title. Shouldn't work. Does. Debut album out October 16.

Hang Linton - "DRIFTERS lullaby"

An alarm in the dark, milk gone off, a back broken on hope. Then a chorus that turns the weight into something shared. More fight than fury.
