Not William of Normandy's men, but I took this photo in August from the ramparts of the Mont Saint-Michel: horses crossing the vast sands of the Bay at low tide. What a magnificent view. #BayeuxTapestry #quicksand #Couesnon #MontSaintMichel

A line of horses with riders crossing the sand. Photo taken from the ramparts of the Mont Saint-Michel so the horses are small and distant; the land / marais beyond the edge of the sand is visible in the far distance.

Amazing! We've launched a project to archive stories around the #BayeuxTapestry. I wondered if we could persuade you to share some of these pictures to the archive? If you're happy, please just confirm here and we can add them! Ideally we'd also need the first part of your postcode. #UoLTapestry

On this day, 960 years ago, the Battle of Hastings changed the course of English history ⚔️
Luckily for us, someone decided to stitch the whole thing onto a giant piece of fabric.

It’s regrettable that this culturally momentous anniversary of the #BattleOfHastings, with the #BayeuxTapestry back in England, should also have witnessed even at its fringes a lot of bad angry history, tawdry ‘Anglo-Saxonism’, & even unpleasant white supremacy DNA rubbish

Le 14 octobre 1066, la Bataille d'Hastings fut décisive dans la conquête de l'Angleterre par Guillaume, duc de Normandie, contre les forces armées d'Harold Godwinson, dernier roi anglo-saxon.

Someone's going to have to rewrite quite a few of those #BattleOfHastings history books... Thank you so much to Loki (and amazing author @louiestowell.bsky.social) for this submission to our #BayeuxTapestry archiving project (and a great story sent in to tinyurl.com/UoLTapestry too). 😀🙏 #UoLTapestry

Just in: a response to our #BayeuxTapestry community archiving project from none other than LOKI, Norse God of mischief, himself! Via the utterly brilliant writer and author of the LOKI books series for kids, Louie Stowell. Share your Bayeux Tapestry story with us: tinyurl.com/UoLTapestry

This is absolutely fantastic! Who knew that our #BayeuxTapestry community archiving project would recover such crucial lost historical information? We love the story you submitted to our online portal too. Thank you!🙏

The Nazis really tried to twist history & archaeology to support their worldview

It's why they were so interested in the #BayeuxTapestry, seen here in 1941

To them it showed the descendants of 'superior' Germanic vikings triumphing over the English (who were also Germanic but at war with Germany)

On this day in 1066 the worst battle in English history took place. The Normans invaded & everything changed. Two women were there for it all.

⚔️ #Onthisday in 1066, the Battle of Hastings was fought. Nearly 1,000 years on, the Bayeux Tapestry remains one of history's most powerful visual narratives & is the medieval version of a #panorama. Are you going to see it at the @britishmuseum.bsky.social? #BayeuxTapestry #panoramasky

My #UoLTapestry #BayeuxTapestry story for the archive: My favourite part of the Tapestry is the episode at the Mont Saint-Michel, when Harold Godwinson rescues William's men from the quicksand. This summer, I retraced their footsteps by the Couesnon River, to experience the quicksand for myself. 1/2
