Barbican Estate, London: Absolutely Brutiful. Brutalist architecture in London which combines purpose made green spaces, water features and concrete structures (high-rise flats, apartments, low-rise masonettes and pillars) to provide a much desired, and arguably an aesthetically pleasing, residential complex housing around 2000 residents. Photo provides a snapshot into its architectural design: Rows of stacked maisonettes, decorated with plants and flowers (some hanging), tower via medium width concrete pillars over a green/ gardened communal area, with designated seating, and water. The garden is integrated within various concrete designs - some circle, some rectangular - all of which seem to be surrounded or at least connected to water. One of the circles has been left free of plants etc and has a bridge, or walkway connecting the empty circle to the wider residential complex. The empty circle looks very much like it's a community area with concrete seating facilities, for perhaps 50 people, resembling that of an amphitheatre (seating moving up and further back from the centre)

A photograph taken from the first floor level of the Barbican complex. So that half the image is dominated by the solidly of a walkway made up of pillars and overhanging higher floors. The second half features autumnal colours of planted trees and shrubs, the curve of a distant building and the pale blue sky beyond. Taken on a bright and sunny day.

My #walktober wanders always include the #Barbican - today it wasn't the architecture that caught my eye, but that even the City's citadel can't escape the parched #grass of the #heatwaves! (If anything, worse than most places, as the flats shield it from the rain we've since had!)

A grassy park area is parched, with the ground mostly light brown and only patches of green. There are greener trees and bushes around, and brutalist flats surrounding it.
