Today, I'm going to talk about what life looks like right now after the 4th of July flood destroyed my living space, and what that means for my writing projects. ๐ #AuthorThreads #AuthorLife #ReadingCommunity
The one project that is not impacted by the flood is my upcoming novel Be Mine. We're currently waiting on cooler weather so my artist can begin to draw. ๐ #AuthorThreads #AuthorLife #ReadingCommunity
My life has become waiting on renovations to start while emptying a storage unit and purging my belongings. It sucks. ๐ #AuthorThreads #AuthorLife #ReadingCommunity
Ground zero of the flood was my bed. All the water came in right above where my bed was. It was traumatic. ๐ #AuthorThreads #AuthorLife #ReadingCommunity
As it happened, I was doing a livestream subathon that day, and caught the flood happening on the recording. I have been unable to livestream since I lost my living space. ๐ #AuthorThreads #AuthorLife #ReadingCommunity
Our neighborhood was hit hard this year. First by massive hail damage, then the flood, and then a terrifying tornado season; the likes of which we have never seen. ๐ #AuthorThreads #AuthorLife #ReadingCommunity
On the 4th of July, my living space flooded. I'm still dealing with the aftermath. ๐ #AuthorThreads #AuthorLife #ReadingCommunity #YouTube #Vlog
An author can write a nuanced 100k exploration of grief and still be defeated by the phrase โdescribe your book in one sentence.โ
Creative process: make thing, hate thing, fix thing, over-fix thing, restore earlier version, call it intentional, eat snack.
Indie author workflow: create entire civilization, establish magic economy, invent dynastic politics, spend afternoon Googling why the paperback margin moved two millimeters.
I'm preparing a free short story for the various platforms and would like some feedback on the cover. 1 for the color pop one, 2 for the muted one. #authorthreads #authorsky
No backstory, no context, just the flaw. I'll tell you how it's probably already driving your plot behind the scenes, shaping decisions and conflict whether you planned it that way or stumbled into it by instinct.

2/10 Of all the video game adaptations lately, I thought that this one had the most promise. Willa Holland made it easier to get through, but every other narrative and casting decision was bad, bad, bad.

7/10 Grimy, cruel, and gross, so of course I loved it. Sean Williams Scott shoulda survived.

Iโll be part of The Palace Reading Series at The Greenpoint Palace (206 Nassau Ave) on September 29th. Drafts are two for one, listening is free. Come on by - 7-9pm. #bookthreads #authorthreads
6/10 Joe Keery is great! The choice to put mostly unlikable people in the back seat of his Lyft made it kind of tedious. At least it was short and moved fast.

6/10 Been hearing about his one for a while, finally gave it a try. It was fine. Anton Yelchin makes it watchable.

4/10 (spoiler alert) I suspect that the first draft of this script had a few elements that would have made this more memorable/controversial: the dad hated his gay son and the sheriff was racist, making the boomer killing spree that much more vicious and cruel.

Maybe publishing is a little like surfing.
You paddle.
You wait.
You miss waves.
You get knocked down.
You paddle back out.
And every now and then, you see one coming and think: Maybe this one is mine.
I can usually tell which creative role has taken over by the verb in charge. Inventing, arranging and explaining are all useful; asking one paragraph to do all three is less charming.
