The devil must think it's funny
how the world works in his ways.
Days and months spent in jail
for a petty crime and for
the rich ones doing the most wicked?
A flimsy argument for the bail

How do they sleep at night?
Does it not give them a fright?
Having done the unimaginable
How is the blood pressure still manageable?

It’s foolish to say
that money doesn’t buy happiness
when you can store your innocence
in cash as bank deposits

“It's not ladylike to sit that way”
Her grandma tells her every day
Being raised by someone so stern
Right from wrong she never learnt
Her love was never returned
A child’s innocence quickly burnt
She stopped feeling altogether
Felt no happiness whatsoever
Started letting her intrusive thoughts win
They were louder than the house’s din
Had no empathy, not even a smattering
Soon consequences had stopped mattering
Every day she watches the news
about a serial killer who leaves no clues
Except for the cuts on the victim's palm
Just like grandma punishes with no qualm
It’s not very ladylike to harm someone
It starts as a kid, when all is said and done

Tossing a coin to choose one
Illusion of choice
Already made up his mind
There's no escaping
This tiring, painful ending
Last moments in hell
Nothingness comes after this
No moment of relief
What does morality dictate?
Would he really let
The cruel disease take control
To take its own course
Or override the button
On drip of morphine

Let’s make a bet
Shall we?

undulating
at the crack of dawn.
Scattering on the heaps of snow
is the amber glow
against the web
of bare branches
obscuring the navy sky.

Mystical is this morning
a sight to behold
Mystical is this village
the secret it holds.

Its beauty is a lure
like a Venus flytrap
the goddess of beauty
presenting a snare.
Beckoning you
to be the feast

Day 8: Stinky

A new guest is here
Showing them around the house
He's happy today

Near the closet now
A stink coming from in there
"A dead mouse, perhaps?”

He’s avoidant
"Maybe," he says and quickly
changes the subject

It's unbearable
decay is filling the lungs
“Let’s go someplace else."

Tony can't risk it
This is his thirteenth target
His lucky number

Day 9: Ram

Marty rammed his car
Intentionally into the tree
It was an accident
That's what he’d try and tell thee

Trying to make it look like one
For a punishment less severe
He would convince everyone
He lost control of the steer

The animal he has killed
Is regarded as sacred
Go to prison for ten years
And face the community's hatred

Little does he know
The forest has eyes
Drinking, murder, now trickery
To his sins the forest is wise

The moon would once again witness
Nature’s justice from afar
The tree’s damaged trunk was his alibi
Now its roots are devouring the car

The scientists had finally found life beyond Earth. Only to realise, all these planets were on course for decimation. They were tracking these planets. Thousands down, a hundred more to go. The curse of knowledge, of knowing you can't do anything. With only minutes left for Jupiter to come for the Earth, people scramble around, hopeless but with enough hope to run, with nowhere to go. For years the planet had shielded us from a million rocks. Something made it come our way.
Something has decided life must end, in all its forms.

Gloom latches on when you rouse
Despair follows you around
In this barren house

The floor and ceiling seem to collide
Wanting to swallow you whole
Something watches you from the bedside

Not one sapling survives
In this soil that reeks of decay
A rot that nothing could revive

The hands of the grandfather clock
Move slowly, as does the time
And with it, all the joy it blocks

The birds fly smack into the walls
Not even into the glass windows
Dead animals around the boundary sprawl

Don't be mistaken, this isn’t a haunted house
It is a house that haunts, with a sinister grouse.

Marty is the most timid kid in school
He's scared of zombies and the Yeti
The vampires and the werewolves
The ogres, trolls and even Nessie

He lies awake at night
Thinking of things that come in crawling
The slightest sound gives him a fright
He’s tossing in bed till morning

When he grows up he’ll realise
All these monsters might sound scary
But the thing that should frighten him most
Are humans and not the fairies

Things a human does could alarm
But it is never a surprise
We are capable of doing more harm
Than an evil spirit could ever devise

Hippocratic oath
means nothing in this clinic

care is secondary
