Died #otd Ace Frehley (1951-2025), American musician, 1 year ago today #AceFrehley life story...

The original KISS lineup reunited in 1996, bringing Ace’s Spaceman back to arenas worldwide. He left again in 2002. In 2014, all four founding members entered the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, although they didn’t perform at the ceremony. #KISS #AceFrehley #TomMorello #OneHitWondered

Ace Frehley left KISS in 1982 amid substance abuse/creative tensions... He returned to record stores with Frehley’s Comet in 1987, working again with Eddie Kramer. “Rock Soldiers” turned his struggles and pursuit of sobriety into a comeback anthem. #AceFrehley #OneHitWondered #MusicSky

At a December 12, 1976 KISS concert in Lakeland, Florida, Ace Frehley suffered a severe electric shock after touching a metal stage railing. He survived, returned to finish the show and later wrote “Shock Me.” It was Ace’s KISS lead vocal debut. #KISS #AceFrehley #OneHitWondered #MusicSky

Ace wasn’t the first to release “New York Groove.” The Russ Ballard-penned song was originally recorded in 1975 by British glam rockers Hello, who took it onto the UK Top 10 before the Space Ace claimed it for his own. #AceFrehley #RussBallard #OneHitWondered #MusicSky

As we’ve said many times, the Russ Ballard rabbit hole seems almost endless... His list of songwriting credits is staggering. An amazing career... Ace Frehley’s anthem, “New York Groove,” is one of his songs. #RussBallard #AceFrehley #KISS #OneHitWondered

No, KISS didn’t earn US #OneHitWonder honors… but Ace Frehley sure did! His version of the Russ Ballard-penned “New York Groove” was the only US #Top40 single from the four solo KISS albums released in 1978, earning him his solo honors. #AceFrehley #KISS #RussBallard #OneHitWondered #MusicSky

#OTD in 2025, we lost the Space Ace… Born in the Bronx, Ace Frehley co-founded KISS in 1973 as the band’s original lead guitarist. In 1978, all four KISS members released solo albums at the same time. Only Ace’s produced a US #Top40 hit: “New York Groove” #AceFrehley #KISS #OneHitWondered #MusicSky

A few days later, my friend Uncle Steve and I talked about his musical life and times. I think it turned out pretty well.
