Morning #BlueSky ☕️ & welcome to the sombre splendour of Glasnevin Cemetery in Dublin, Ireland. Have a great day friends 😌 #ECK #Dublin #PalacesAndGardens #LastWords

Our photograph captures an imposing historic tomb at Glasnevin Cemetery beneath a dramatic, cloud-filled sky.

At the centre stands an ornate stone mausoleum, its weathered grey-brown masonry darkened by age and time.

The tomb is enclosed by a roofed canopy supported by tall stone columns, several decorated with intricate spiral carvings.

Rounded arches connect the pillars, creating a series of shadowy openings through which trees, gravestones and the surrounding cemetery can be seen.

Above them, a sloping roof of small, overlapping tiles is crowned by two upright stone finials.

Beneath the canopy rests a substantial stone sarcophagus, adorned with carved panels and sculptural details.

In the foreground, numerous flat, rectangular gravestones lie closely arranged across the ground, their uneven surfaces catching faint traces of light.

Beyond the monument, crosses, headstones and dark silhouettes of trees extend into the distance.

The photograph's muted teal sky and deep shadows lend the scene a haunting, almost cinematic atmosphere.

Heavy clouds gather overhead, contrasting with the pale highlights on the ancient stonework.

The perspective draws the eye across the low-lying graves towards the grand central tomb, emphasising its scale and solemn presence.

There is a profound sense of stillness here, where generations of Irish lives are remembered among weathered stone, quiet pathways and enduring monuments.

It is a place where history and memory seem to linger, and where the silence of the cemetery feels almost tangible.

Finally, our picture today is finished with a simple white border frame.

A dramatic macro photograph of a spiderweb stretched between dark foliage, with a large water droplet suspended from its delicate strands. Intense red lighting bathes the surrounding leaves and blurred background, while pink highlights illuminate the web and droplet, creating a striking contrast against deep shadows. The shallow depth of field gives the image a mysterious, surreal atmosphere.

Black and white image of a large thistle plant that is curling up and dying. Its long, thick stems are bending towards the ground, as are the decaying flowers. A pile of dead leaves covers the ground at the base of the plant. It's a dark and cloudy day with light rain which can be seen if one looks closely. San Luis Obispo, California

Have a great rest of your day my freinds ☺️

What a gorgeous original Rock image to work with and thank you my friend for that, such a pleasure to edit from as they are always sooo detailed and highly zoom-able ☺️

This week, l really want to explain more of my thought process rather than the actual editing process if l may (it got crazy lol 😂)

My first thought was that the result has to be far removed from the original image to fit the abstract brief…but not too far.

But also l LOVE the cross posting element (which l hope happens again) as it adds an extra dimension to the edit.

So, in that regard l focused in on the gothic aesthetic first and l knew l wanted a monochromatic feel.

I seriously considered the water section of the original image but the building (once zoomed in) was so fascinating with the design and patterns, that it became my focus.

Gothic, reminds me of cathedrals (which Ireland has many) and the building had that wonderful brutalist vibe so l brought the two together.

Very much like the interior of the Church of Christ the Redeemer by Nicola and Leonardo Mosso and Livio Norzi in Turin, Italy.

As for the actual editing process…all done in Lightroom. To be completely honest l got lost in a creative whirlwind of crops, reversing, mirroring, colour reductions, lighting, highlighting, exposures, detail, clarity, vignetting etc etc lol 😂

But l did finish with my usual white border frame to tie it all together.

🚨NEW CHALLENGE 12th-18th Oct 🚨

Welcome back to the #PostProcess challenge & onto our new one listed below with the link of the @rjrock.bsky.social capture to show us your #PostProcess #Abstract skills!

You can cross post to #abstractia if your edit matches their #gothic theme.

Good luck ☺️👌🏼 #ECK

#Abstract is the theme. Take this image somewhere it no longer reads as what it was. It can look like something else entirely. Tell us where you started and stopped and why. Cross post to #abstractia if your edit matches their #gothic theme.

Take it somewhere it no longer reads as what it was. Abstract doesn’t mean it has to look like nothing. It can look like something else entirely: a map, a texture, a weather system, a fabric. It just can’t read as the original subject anymore.

THE TEST
Show it to someone who hasn’t seen the original. If they can’t say it’s a building and a plaza, you’re there.

WAYS IN
These are doors, not rules. Use one, mix several, or ignore them.

Crop to a fragment until scale is unreadable
Warp, mirror, rotate, or stretch it
Layer or repeat it
Strip it to tone, or limit it to a few colors
Remove the horizon, the edges, anything that says what it was
Push it until the detail turns into pattern
