We had earthquake, fire, tornado, & nuke drills in elementary school (80's).

None of them, not even nuke drills, terrorized us.

1 day, a kid brought loaded gun to school. Now that scared us. No 1 was shot, regular slaughters at schools weren't a thing, & it still unerved us.

We live in a country where "ShotSpotter" alerts are a thing, and they don't even help prevent mass slaughters.

The US lost its way long ago, and major, foundational, reforms are so badly needed.

We just do not have to live with this horror. We just don't.
