#peachtober #2DArt Sail, out of order and a few days late. Life's continued to get ahead of me, but I'm still slowly chipping away at each piece for this series. Wanted to make something with the resurgent hype of Treasure Planet (best one next to Atlantis) Creative notes in alt-text.

A grav-bike speeds along a sun-set desert, its solar-sail unfurled and covered in shimmering purples, greens, and blues, absorbing the last vestiges of sunlight for the evening. Towers of rock loom in the background as her grey bike with orange and blue livery sped past each one. Regret motivated her ride, the spinneret drive powering the engine focused on an uncertain destination, but one she knew would put her mind at rest.

This is an idea I'd had in mind in my early drafting for Peachtober pieces, focused on a not-so-subtle reference to Treasure Planet. I've loved that movie since I first saw it and the idea of a surfboard or speeder-bike with a solar-sail attached to it has lived rent free in my head ever since.

Alongside the film's visual motifs, so too has its themes around identity and familial relationships. I had the misfortune of growing up in a horrifically bigoted, staunchly Mormon family. It stunted so much of my growth that to this day I'm struggling with. My gender identity, my sense of sexuality, how I deal with romance, and so much more. I didn't have the words nor the media analysis under my belt at the age of first seeing the film to really grasp why the movie resonated with me, but I knew I had watched something emotionally important to me when John Rzeznik's "I'm Still Here" started playing, illustrating Hawkins' struggles with meeting the absurd expectations of those around him, the type of man everyone else wants him to be, instead of letting him ask for himself who he is.

The coloring aspect I'm proudest of here is for the sail itself. I began by blocking in random segments of neon pink. After, I filled the remaining sections with an extremely light, pastel green. Following, I over-coated all of it with a shade of light purple and once more with a teal-blue. It gave it this nice shimmering effect I'm very happy with.

As for music this time around, I... think it goes without saying, really.
