Standing on a ridge looking down over treetops to a small pond a couple hundred feet below. Another long, low wooded ridge rises above the far shore. The majority of the trees retain most of their foliage, gold, orange and golden brown tones of autumn. A light dusting of wet snow has melted off most of the ground, but patches remain. A greater amount is still sticking to the trunks and branches of trees. The bright golden orange sun is setting above the ridge across the pond tinting the otherwise pale blue gray sky vivid orange along and above the horizon.

Black and white photo of a large black tarantula on a dirt trail. He is very hairy and was walking over the trail. The sun was coming from the right, so his shadow is under and to the left of the spider. September-October is mating season, so they are more likely to be seen during this time.

A large cracked boulder is wedged between two jagged rock formations under blue sky with soft clouds. Beneath the suspended boulder rests another blocky rock with red-brown tones, supported by a vertical wall built from small fieldstones. The natural rock faces on either side are weathered with scattered fissures and sparse dried vegetation clinging to the crevices.

Sedimentary rocks form the cliffs and bluffs along the ocean at Montaña De Oro State Park in Los Osos, California. An inlet leads to a cave into the seaside bluff. Layers of different colored and textured rock make up the bluff. Above the cave is more rock, and a few (very small) people are walking the trail which gives one a sense of scale. In the distance is Valencia Peak and light blue sky; there is a little bit of marine mist which mutes the colors.
