Title:
Ash Evergreen

Poem:
Scorched earth
And black trees
That was all
I had left in me
But like Ash
Spouting evergreens
Your soft touch
Wiped this forest clean
Others poured gasoline
And lit flame
Yet you still saw fit
to lay a claim
Sowed seeds
Now seek your sun
Beneath your glow I'll sit
Till my days are done

- J Poetry

The image behind the poem is of a fire scorched forest stretching across rolling hills. A swift, orange sunrise lights the landscape, and highlights new greenery growing from the ashes - evergreens.

The whispers of the books
lured me into this old library.
But instead of new reading adventures,
the books are holding court over
their readers. If we treated them
well or touched them with greasy
fingers, put donkey's ears
into their pages and far worse
crimes. I plead innocent. My
duty solicitor, a law textbook,
gives me a good prognosis.
But my other co-defendants
might not be so lucky...

A lonely medieval traveller wades through a moonlit bog towards a delicate blue white will o’ the wisp. Beneath the hovering light, the black mud opens into an enormous hidden mouth lined with pale teeth, revealing that the wisp has lured him to a buried creature’s feeding place.

It wasn’t the #lure of fame that made her want to do this, Essie thought, watching Neña crush sage . . . #petals? leaves? into a tiny ball, placing it carefully in one of their father’s old handkerchiefs, tying it off with a piece of ribbon. She held it to Essie’s face. “Breathe through this when you feel weak,” she said, “para fuerza.”
