looking face-on at a large composite flower with a dozen oblong, light pink ray florets with 2 points & a notch between at their tips, surrounding a cone of dozens of narrow, dark red disk florets. the disks at the periphery of the cone are done blooming, while those in the very center are still green & haven't started. between those extremes, some disks are capped with little 5-pointed tufts of pale yellow pollen; the floret's five stamens are fused into a tube around the style & as the anthers dry, they shrink, which first pushes pollen out the top of the stamen tube then eventually allows the style's two curly stigmas to hang free. some of the disks are at this stage, their stigmas coated in pollen looking like moth antennae.
