Nerthra sp. - one of the Toad Bugs (I think)

Spotted this amazingly well camouflaged Toad Bug recently, if it hadn’t moved we’d never have seen it.

Western Australia just had its second driest September on record… and now BOM are predicting an 80% chance that our temps between Oct and Dec will be in the highest 20% on record

This is terrifying for bushfire prone areas🔥😟

I've published a 32 minute excerpt from the album "A Morning at Sweetwater Lagoon" on my Youtube channel. This album was recorded in Lakefield National Park, Cape York, Australia and features the sounds of a remote tropical lagoon early in the morning.

This Pacific Baza appeared totally oblivious to us as it hunted its breakfast. It's the first time I've seen one with a frog and definitely one of the highlights of today's 55 species early morning walk. #birds #wildoz #brisbane

A Pacific Baza eating a small green tree frog. It took it a while to get the frog down, but as soon as it did it was off hunting again, tracking movements with its bright yellow eyes.

BuffelpalooSA was held in Port Augusta last week. Bringing together experts in buffel grass, from researchers to on-ground weed control specialists, the event was attended by a range of agencies, landholders, non-government organisations and other partners in the buffel battle

The beaches around the southwest of Western Australia are always good for a spot of beach combing or rock pooling.

I think this large marine snail found today might a Turbo kenwilliamsi 🐚

Dusk, and the balmy evening is swarming with Bogong moths emerging from their day-time hiding places. It seems they're partial to a sip or two of chardonnay to see them on their way to Kosciuszko. One for the road guys! #moths #WildOz

A young Powerful Owl mid trill looking towards the adult who was holding, and nibbling dinner. Eventually it hopped over to the adult and had a possum snack for lunch. #birds #brisbane #wildoz

Powerful Owlet in a suburban Brisbane park this morning. Surprisingly for daytime, it was trilling constantly. But then we saw one of its parents having a Brushtail lunch nearby in the same tree, and the Owlet joined it a few minutes later.

Caladenia paludosa - Swamp Spider Orchid

Often found growing in dense coastal heathland in areas that are swampy in winter, hence its common name. Endemic to the southwest of Western Australia.

Stylidium petiolare - Horn Triggerplant

One of triggerplants endemic to the southwest if WA.

Like all triggerplants, this one has a sensitive floral column that snaps forward when touched by an insect daubing it with pollen 🌿
