They called
Her Cat
Short for
Catastrophe
But she claimed
It wasn't
Her fault
Born under
A bad sign
And dealt a
Loathsome hand
She humbly
Did what
she could
For the
Current
Ongoing
Disaster

Not wishing for
The right
Conundrum
To not solve
A plague
Of puzzlement
So an unquiet mind
Might rue
The day
Somewhat pleasantly
Amidst the
Landscape
Of the mundane

At the harbour, the men lewdly ask for my hourly rate. Upon returning to the dock, they watch silently as I unload the day's biggest catch.

They circled the Pharaoh’s daughter and the boy protecting her. His skill with the vibro-khopesh sword keeping the men at bay, she threw her royal Wadjet amulet at them.

It unfurled into a robot cobra as assassins screamed and children ran for the Chariot shuttlecraft.

I used to be a prose #vss guy on the other site (potatochipstories.com/web-stories/...).

I'm not much into poetry reading, but this is really, really good. Thanks for sharing this.

Le sport ne peut rester un angle mort face aux VSS. Trop de récidivistes échappent à des sanctions réelles. Nous proposons des peines planchers effectives pour que la protection des victimes devienne une réalité, pas une promesse. #VSS #Justice

Outside, methane begins to freeze against the side of my crashed ship. Inside, the cats lie on me with unease.

“It’s fine, Beans,” I say petting them. “It’s fine, Cornbread.”

Twelve hours of life support remain. Distress call still unanswered.

“It’s fine.”

It feels like a bite, you'd like to say. But what feels that way is your mind overwhelmed with the sensation it's being chewed on.
Who's the chewer? Was it them, or was it phantom chewing? Echoes. Was it your mind itself? You?

Empty bed
In the fog
Of a dream
Abandoned
Too many
Years to count
Rusted springs
Headboard
Flaking paint
Holding tales
Of lovers past
Passion lost
Through broken
Windows
Spiderwebs thick
In corners
Trapping memories
Of old ghost
Just come
To reminisce

Not inclined
To following
Schedules
Or the rigors
Of marking off
To-do list items
Much to careless
And carefree
For that
But rather instead
Toward happenstance
And synchronicity
Or even mischief
If available
Every day just
Waiting
For whatever
Happens next
