The towpath is slowly waking to sullen skies and the dampness of autumnal mists. Breathe in deeply. You can smell autumn in the still air. Reach out your hand. Through the damp leaves, feel the heavy ribbon of sinewy stem. Heavy with a massive of berries. Smooth, wet spheres, as pretty as pearls, but filled not with a piece of grit, but the fire of life.

This weekend is the last of the season for volunteers at Llanymynech Canal Wharf until 2027. Over 500 visitors have dropped in over the past six months. We'd like to thank everyone for their support. #UKCanals

At Gallows Reach, as the inclement‑weather season draws near, the team is taking no chances - they’ve built another bund as a secondary line of defence at the second headwall.

Hopefully this means they can continue to cast concrete bases, without fear of flooding.
