A Eurasian Curlew standing on barnacle covered rocks at the edge of the sea. The bird is slightly right of centre of the shot, facing left so that its left side can be seen.
It has a very long, downward curved bill, which is brownish. Its plumage on top is a mottled grey-brown with dark streaking throughout, the plumage gets darker towards the back of the bird. Its underbelly is cream coloured and is also dark streaked. It has long greyish legs, which can only be seen to just below the knee in the shot.
The foreground is a dark rock which appears to be one large slab with large crack and crevasses throughout. It is curved rather than sharp, and mostly covered in a thin layer of yellowish barnacles with a few limpets here and there. The background is a calm and out of focus sea with a whitish appearance from the light

A thick blanket of coastal fog hangs over a quiet inlet in the Pacific Northwest. Dense evergreen forests cover the steep hillsides, their treetops gradually fading into the pale gray mist. Below, rugged cliffs of exposed rock and weathered earth give way to a shoreline scattered with dark boulders. Calm, blue-gray water fills the foreground, curving around a wooded point toward a distant shore that is barely visible through the fog. The muted colors and layers of mist give the entire scene a soft, atmospheric quality.
