Two Indian Peafowls, usually referred to as Pracocks even though some are hens, are being fed by a man near the entrance to Sheffield Park Gardens National Trust, in Sussex, yesterday afternoon. The one on the left is the more usual fancy green and blue coloured version, while the other is a more rare white bird. A shed behind the group features maps of both the garden and the country. Good morning. Today's #BirdoftheDay is #Pairs -- two of the same species in one photo. Here is an adult and juvenile Pileated woodpecker from #StanleyPark, #Vancouver, 7/2026.

Clinging to the bark of a vertical tree trunk is a juvenile black woodpecker. S/he has a white face with a black eye stripe and a black stripe from the corner of her mouth. We see her in profile. Her crown is standing up and is pink. The background is blurry, leafy tree branches in the distance. Appearing just behind the young one is an adult's head peering around the corner. We see the more defined black stripes on a white face, a pointy matte-black bill, and the hint of the brilliant red crest. We also see the yellow eye clearly, in contrast to the simple black eye on the young one.
