“I’m not proud of this America” doesn't mean I stopped loving my country.

It means I believe we can be better than this.

Loving something doesn't require pretending it's perfect. ⚡

No more hints.

You wanted the chorus. Here it is.

And that's only half of it. ⚡

THIS AMERICA — OCTOBER 16

I've talked enough.

No more hints. No more holding it back.

Today, you hear the chorus. ⚡

THIS AMERICA — OCTOBER 16

Hatred doesn't become acceptable because it comes from someone on "your side."

If we're going to stand against it, we have to stand against it everywhere. ⚡

Tomorrow, I stop telling you about the chorus.

Tomorrow, you hear it. ⚡

THIS AMERICA — OCTOBER 16.

There was an easier version of THIS AMERICA.

Cleaner. Safer. More comfortable.

I deleted it.

Comfortable wasn't the point. Honest was. ⚡

The anger wasn't accidental. Neither was the language.

I rewrote. I cut. I questioned. But I didn't sanitize what I felt.

Every word was a choice. ⚡

Some lines change the whole song.

I knew this one would get a reaction. I could've softened it.

I left it exactly where it was. ⚡

I could've made THIS AMERICA safer. I didn't.

The anger, disappointment and hope all belong there.

And the part I almost talked myself out of releasing?

You haven't heard the chorus yet. ⚡

Who gets heard—and who gets ignored?

That question became one of the lines at the heart of THIS AMERICA.

“And I had to watch the powerful / Decide who gets to have a say.” ⚡

Questioning your country isn't the same as giving up on it.

Sometimes you question it because you still believe it can be better.

That's where THIS AMERICA comes from. ⚡

You've heard why I wrote it.

You've learned its name.

You've seen the cover.

Now…

turn the sound on. 🔊

This is your first listen to THIS AMERICA.

No explanation this time.

Just listen.
