@deepfocusreview.bsky.socialI hoped for something special when I heard Zach Cregger was making RESIDENT EVIL, but I didn’t expect the result to be one of the year’s most entertaining horror movies. It’s not only great for a video game movie; it’s a great movie, period.

@deepfocusreview.bsky.socialTHE WEIGHT, starring Ethan Hawke and Russell Crowe, opens on Friday. It's kind of a Depression-era version of SORCERER (1977), except more optimistic. I mean that as a complement.

@deepfocusreview.bsky.socialHere's my take on SHAUN THE SHEEP: THE BEAST OF MOSSY BOTTOM, a very cute, funny, and autumnal entry, perfect for Halloweentime.

@deepfocusreview.bsky.socialWith THE UPRISING, director Paul Greengrass dramatizes a chapter of history with clear modern-day parallels, and despite his unsubtle approach, the result is a stirring epic. #AndrewGarfield is excellent in it as well.
@davesdungeon.bsky.socialWatching The Running Man tonight for some “this movie wasn’t supposed to be a documentary, but it is now.”
Might add on Idiocracy for a double feature.

@deepfocusreview.bsky.socialTook my mom to the press screening of #PracticalMagic2, thinking she would enjoy it, since she loves the first one. But nope, like me, she felt it was basically a tired retread of the original.
Anyway, here's my review.

@deepfocusreview.bsky.socialNa Hong-jin's HOPE hits theaters tomorrow. It starts out great, with exhilarating car chases and stunts. But by the last half-hour, it all depends on how much bad CGI you can tolerate.
Me? Not much.
@peteypops82.bsky.socialTonight's viewing. Breaking in a new TV the way God intended.
