Otto Yamaoka, who plays Tracy's valet Ching, was imprisoned with his family during WWII at the Heart Mountain internment camp in rural Wyoming, despite being born in Seattle. #TCMParty #LibeledLady #EverythingOldIsNewAgain #HistoryRepeatingItself

Walleye was especially pleased to be cast in two scenes, but still, this was his last movie. #TrueHollywoodFact #LibeledLady #TCMParty

She looks fabulous!

She sure is! 😊🎣

Remember folks, catch and release like Henry Winkler.

Libeled Lady wasn’t merely acclaimed—it was a major box-office success, ranking among the 20 highest-grossing films of 1936.

That was supposed to be an exclamation point not a question mark!!! This is my sleep deprived brain lately folks, sorry. 😑

These fish had hoped that some extra work in #LibeledLady would lead to bigger things, but in fact they never made another movie. #TrueHollywoodFact #TCMParty

Look how marvelous Myrna looks in her fishing outfit.

Oh God, Bill's got a book on fish. 🤣
Well, if you're going to fake it, go first class.
... and the book gets away.

Myrna Loy particularly loved Powell’s performance in the fishing sequence. She later praised his remarkable ability to move between sophisticated comedy and serious drama.

I've watched this hundreds of times & I always laugh at this whole fishing section. It's brilliant. #LibeledLady #TCMParty

Powell is hilarious in this fishing scene. I laugh out loud every time.

MGM actually hired Joseph E. Bernard as a fly-fishing technical expert for Libeled Lady. Someone was professionally responsible for making William Powell’s incompetent fishing look convincingly incompetent!

Myrna's pretty cute in waders.

I adore that pantsuit she’s wearing.
That’s how all pantsuits should fit.

The fly-fishing sequence is one of my favorite bits in Libeled Lady. Powell must pretend Chandler is an expert fisherman when he very obviously isn’t.

The cast and crew reportedly spent nearly a week living in small cabins while filming the mountain sequences. Myrna Loy remembered the location shoot as particularly enjoyable.

Why is this father reminding me of Charles Ruggles in Bringing Up Baby?

Not everything you see outdoors was filmed on an MGM backlot. Portions of Libeled Lady were shot on location around Sonora, California, in the Sierra Nevada foothills.
