The most soul-crushing part of learning Japanese: you memorize 500 words and STILL can't catch a single line in a drama 😭 Textbooks don't teach contractions or real speed. Anyone else? 🙋

~たことがある = have done / past life experience.
Not plain past た — it marks something as part of your experience history.

If #Nintendo said, "Little Mac is a 倭 character," would folks be offended? Or would they call Nintendo clever?

まだ~ていません = have not done it yet.
Ongoing unfinished state — not ませんでした. Contrast まだ~ています (still doing).

One-minute grammar: transitive vs intransitive
・ドアが開く → the door opens (by itself)
・ドアを開ける → someone opens the door
Shortcut: が = intransitive, を = transitive. Learn them in pairs, never alone 🚪

~たあとで = after doing A, then B.
A is completed before the next action; compare ~てから for a stronger “after” link.

「大丈夫です」 is the most confusing phrase for learners. Clerk asks if you want a bag → it means 'no thanks'. A friend asks if you're okay → it means 'I'm fine'. Same phrase, opposite meanings, all context.

The train phrase that saves you: 「この電車、〇〇に止まりますか」 (does this train stop at 〇〇?). Express, rapid and local trains skip different stations — I've been carried very far past my stop 🚃😥

One-minute grammar: 〜んです
Adding it turns a flat statement into 'here's the reason' or 'tell me more':
・遅れました → I was late
・遅れたんです → (because something happened) I was late
Native speech is full of this 💬
