Regrouping makes so much more sense when you can physically feel and see the place values change! Watch how we use MathReps on @Wipebooks to bridge concrete manipulatives with written math strategies. #EduProtocols #MathTeacher #MathReps #NowaTechie #Wipebook #ITeachMath

Try this shady #yohaku. Fill in cells with 9 different integers to get products shown in each row/column AND sum of 4 shaded cells is -3. #mathsky #iTeachMath

Use 9 different integers in a 3 by 3 grid. The numbers in the top row multiply to -78. The numbers in the middle row multiply to 35. The numbers in the bottom row multiply to -330. The numbers in the left column multiply to -20. The numbers in the middle column multiply to -231. The numbers in the right column multiply to 195. The sum of the integers in the 2 by 2 square at the top left of the grid is -3.

It's time for #MathStratChat!

Rules: post your favorite or a clever solution! It's also fun to comment on other's strategies.

Tell us about your reasoning.

How we define 'explicit teaching' is often not explicit. And that causes a lot of problems.

There are a few long paths in today's Versus CPU mode. Those give you a nice lead and even if you don't get to start, odds are the CPU won't take it.

How high of a score can you get? I got 38 points today.

Radius-4 Versus CPU mode game with a target value of 30. Hexagons are tiled on a honeycomb board. The Hexagons have whole number values between 1 and 26, inclusive.

Start your day with this #yohaku. Fill in cells with 9 different factors of 930 to get totals shown in each row/column. #mathsky #iTeachMath

Use 9 different factors of 930 in a 3 by 3 grid. The numbers in the top row add to 36. The numbers in the middle row add to 96. The numbers in the bottom row add to 202. The numbers in the left column add to 98. The numbers in the middle column add to 218. The numbers in the right column add to 18.

Which is your favorite and why?

In #MathsToday, 11th grade pre-calc Ss invented the Law of Cosines (and realized its usefulness).

Started w/ right triangle, changed it up. Derivation took a while, but w/ a _little_ guidance, every group found the formula!

Tonight, practice.
Next class, ambiguous case!

#MTBoS #ITeachMath

Three triangles with sides 6 and 8. Included angles are 90, 60, and 120.Two triangles with sides 6 and 8. Included angles are 40 and 140.
Then one generic triangle with sides/vertices labeled a, b, c, A, B, C. c=?

Nice proportional reasoning Shawn! Cross multiply and divide would miss all of that lovely thinking. Well done!
