Temps begin to ease today along the Mediterranean but will remain hottest here, peaking in the mid-high 30Cs with an Advisory for the Axarquia region.

Thu, however, comes a more significant drop as Easterly/ Levante winds return, with hottest temps transferring to the SW.

A look at Tuesday and it peaked back in the low 40Cs with hottest spots along the Mediterranean with Xàtiva, Carcaixent & Ointinyent 41.9C, while as MeteoGib forecast, closer to home it reached 40.9C in #Álora! 🥵

#Iberia temps at 7am, 09/09 - it's been a cooler start for parts of the NW with Pajares just 6C and León 9C, in comparison to a very hot night towards the Mediterranean and especially where Terral winds, with Torrox & Valencia 27C, Malaga, Carboneras & Huercal Overa 28C and Alicante AP at 31C! 🥵🥵

#Iberia can do this. But they can’t find our luggage for a month, even when we send them satellite screenshots of the buildings they’re in. They also can’t manage the math on reimbursements for us. But mid-air solar eclipse photo op? No problem.

A look at Monday and again it hit the 40Cs, hottest for #Spain was Fuencaliente 43.3C and #Portugal Sao Pedro do Corval 40.7C.

Breaking news was the 40.1C in Llucmajor, #Mallorca - a new Sep record + first 40C for Balearics outside Jun-Aug since records began.

Good news, as forecast yesterday, we have a temporary switch to a Westerly flow/ Poniente today and for Wednesday, this sees that plume of dust gradually being pushed SE with those hazy skies replaced by some clearer Atlantic air.

A look at yesterday and temperatures remained extreme for the time of year - for #Spain hottest were Andújar 42.4C and Montoro 41.3C, for #Portugal it was Alvega 41.6C and Alvalade 40.6C!

The extreme heat continues today, peaking again in the low 40Cs.

A look at the last few days temps and hottest spots reached an incredible 45.7C at El Granado, Huelva 🥵🥵 - making hottest day of 2026 and rare for Sep, while also tying with Montoro in 2016 for the Sep record.

A look at yesterday's heat and, as MeteoGib forecast, temperatures ramped up into the low 40Cs 🥵🥵 - hottest spots for #Spain were Fuencaliente 42.8C and Montoro & Écija 41.6C - for #Portugal it was Sao Pedro do Corval with 39.0C.

As per recent MeteoGib posts, this new plume of dust continues to affect much of the peninsula today, extending further NW and intensifying - expect further hazy/ calima skies - further dust forecast to continue through into the weekend.
