Happy #FossilFriday! Had an amazing week taking part in BeaverCON in Minneapolis this year! I presented on the Giant Beaver as our state fossil and learned SO much 🦫! We even brought a bunch of #beaver fossils from the Science Museum of Minnesota to the @bellmuseum.bsky.social for a Dam Good Night!

Breaking my silence this #FossilFriday to confirm that I'm a madman doing back-to-back conferences next month.

Also, stay tuned for another big (for me) announcement later this month...

The official logo for SVP 2026, featuring a Cleveland Guardian of Traffic (a Greco-Roman-inspired human statue that lines a major bridge in Cleveland, Ohio) holding a skull of a Dunkleosteus.A colorful flyer for IPC7 with a primarily black background bordered by alternating red, blue, green, yellow, and orange blocks. Each block along the bottom has line drawings of paleontological or geological features of South Africa, including Table Mountain and a Lystrosaurus skull.

Another cool find for #FossilFriday: 66 Mya, a theropod dinosaur munched on a toothed diving bird, and we know it because its feathers were preserved in the dino's 💩

#PaleoSky ⚒️🧪🦕

While some dinosaurs are thought to have had ‘fuzzy’ or ‘downy’ feathers (shown in this illustration as the yellow spikes on a Nanotyrannus’ neck), ancient birds (such as the one in the Nanotyrannus’ mouth) were more likely to have had feathers that look similar to the birds of today. #FossilFriday brings canoodling Seymouria, a largely terrestrial Permian tetrapod thought to be a stem amphibian.

This replica is from our collection, but the original is apparently at Carnegie. They're called the Tambach lovers, although Seymouria aggregations have been found elsewhere too. 🧪⚒️

Replica cast of two canoodling Seymouria sanjuanensis, early Permian, Germany.

Huh, didn’t notice the donor until just now. Guess the original's at Carnegie!

It's #fossilfriday! Meet Hatzegopteryx, a predatory, ground-stalking pterosaur the size of a small giraffe, found on the islands of Cretaceous Eastern Europe.

Survival Verdict: lol good luck

Maybe! Not only birds, but microraptors too…

Here's a freshly-found Gastonia osteoderm (with a visually helpful plastic Gastonia model) for #FossilFriday out here at Lorrie's Site in eastern Utah.

This is the world's largest and most prolific ankylosaur bonebed, with all the specimens we're excavating going to @prehistoricmuseum.bsky.social

I haven't posted anything for a while, so here's some new #paleoart for #FossilFriday: Cetiosaurus in a Middle Jurassic landscape. I've had to compose and execute this in just two days, so hopefully it looks OK! (All data for the plant recons comes from @palaeojules.bsky.social.)
