But does this meaning change across different family forms? And how much does the way donor conception is discussed within the family shape that journey?
A fascinating topic for discussion. 🧬

Access to donor information can support identity development by giving donor-conceived people a clearer account of their genetic origins, helping them integrate donor conception into their biography and understand ancestry and genetic relationships. #ESHREjc
I would suggest to practice the disclosure in some kind of role play between them, make sure they are comfortable with what they will say, and then do it as simple as possible, with a book, with pictures, and repeat that history with their children at least once a week or two. #ESHREjc
What resources can help parents navigate the disclosure process? I guess books are a good way to help parents start these conversations. What other strategies or resources could support them? #ESHREjc
Q2: How might access to donor information contribute to the identity development of donor-conceived people (DCP), and might this differ across family forms? #ESHREjc
Identity-release laws matter, but the starting point is with the parents. Research shows telling children early and age-appropriately is what supports wellbeing. What the right legal age to access donor identity is, we're still learning. #ESHREjc
Some couples, even they are open for disclosure struggle how to do so, what approach should they make... What would be your suggestion? #ESHREjc
Such an important and reassuring study for patients and their families. I would say that the message for them would be, when we talk about disclosure: better sooner than later #ESHREjc
In the findings from @hgroundstroem.bsky.social @claudialampic.bsky.social the main motivations for seeking donor ℹ️ were resemblance (appearance & non-physical traits), heritage, & medical history. What do experts think should be available? Non-identifying info? Identifying info? What kind? #ESHREjc
From a legal perspective, I’m curious to hear what our experts think @marianavmartins.bsky.social @giuliana-baccino.bsky.social @fertilityeurope.bsky.social
Legislation varies across Europe, with access to identifying info set ~16y/18y. Do you think these are appropriate ages? #ESHREjc
Finding out by parents is always better than through a third-party (e.g. through genetic testing or from someone other than the parents) as it may be more difficult to process and has been associated with more negative experiences #ESHREjc
Disclosure should begin early, develop gradually, and remain open to revisiting across the life course. Not a single conversation but an ongoing process through which the person develops increasingly complex understandings of conception, identity, family and genetic relationships. #ESHREjc
Early, planned disclosure of donor conception is supported by evidence gathered so far. Talking honestly, age-appropriately, and as an ongoing conversation, not a one-off reveal. Longitudinal studies show the advantages of disclosure before age seven in adolescence and early adulthood. #ESHREjc

I guess this question includes 2 interesting discussion points:
1️⃣ when and how parents should disclose donor conception, and
2️⃣ the legal framework (e.g., at what age and how DCP can access information, what information should be provided,..?) #ESHREjc
Regarding when to disclose donor conception, research suggests that learning about it before adolescence (particularly ~7y) is associated with more positive family relationships and wellbeing (e.g, doi.org/10.1111/jcpp... ) #ESHREjc
Q1: When and how should donor-related information be disclosed to people conceived through third-party reproduction?
#ESHREjc
