I switched to a more rule-based system for random map generation (RIP Gibbs). Here, the level "shape" is: start → long hallway down → fork, fork → long hallway left, fork → short hallway right → exit. The hallways can still meander, but the coarse layout is learnable by the player.

Anyway, after the goblins, the shepherdess rewards us with a tip about the goblin's treasure- which turns out to be guarded by a giant spider. During the fight Lute winds up riding the spider's back while stabbing him. What effect this has I dunno.

Combat thus far is a lot of hectic button mashing. The core mechanic is to swapping between characters on cue to trigger combos. Between too-tight camera angles, blinding VFX, and the sheer speed, I can't get a good idea of what's going on.

My first quest is to find some lost sheep, but being open-world, there's a lot of distractions on the way. Especially after the young shepherdess convinces me to go after the Goblins who poached the sheep in the first place.

There's also familiars (mounts), which are the source of your traversal abilities. You get a big beetle at the start, with others available including cats, wolves, and squirrels. Regrettably, the cool red dragon that I wanted is a DLC. 😒

Our primary source of learning where the Temple would be is dead, slain indirectly by my actions. So instead of head north and try to reach the next leg (all 8 legs of them) on my own. While I remember MOST of the path, It’s still a chore to get through.

Lute is knocked out by the explosion (I have a feeling this is going to be a theme), so we ride to the starter city on red dragons(!) and get a montage of the city architecture. Lute is quickly press-ganged into the guild. Intro over, and we're off!

Meet a girl being menaced by vagina-faced goblins. (No, really, just look at them!) Lucky, our PC (Lute, by name) has healing powers. Then our soon-to-be-merked Sempai shows up and helps us beat the goblin boss before blowing the room up with us inside.

After an opening cutscene where we watch our sempai get merked by a dragon, we flash back two weeks and the game proper starts with us waking up on a beach after a shipwreck. Quest marker points down the road, but first, seashells and barrel vandalism!
