FB reminded me of these sketches I did in Carcassonne back in 2016. On the edge of the square, facing the cathedral; inside the cathedral: a well in the town & part of the New Town or Bastide (14th century).

Alnmouth was once a busy port, traces of which can still be seen. Nanna Pat's Cafe & West Tower was the old custom house. Hindmarsh Hall was an 18th century granary. The Old Watchtower was the harbour master's office & lookout (we stayed here recently).
Flashback to 2023. OTD I was waiting for feedback so I could finish a commissioned drawing (issues over some details of stonework) so I did a sketch of stonework, at Monk Bar, York. Mostly 14th century, with an upper storey added in the 15th century.
OTD (11th September) 2018 I finished this drawing of the Five Sisters Windows in the north transept of York Minster.

The main doorway of the Whittling House is 2nd from the left, partly obscured by a white car. It was once the entrance of the villa Osborne House, flanked by an earlier building to left & 2 smaller but similar houses to right.
I managed a third sketch of Carcassonne, in the part between inner and outer walls known as the Lists, while having a picnic lunch. This has the Narbonne gate in the background behind another tower.

We had quite a day in Carcassonne. This is the inside of the Citadel gate.

Another offering for #ADoorableThursday, the Narbonne Gate from the Bistro Fruit in Place Marcou in Carcassonne. I drew it while we had a sit down and leisurely bottle of beer on 10th September 2016.

For #ADoorableThursday here is the entrance to the Whittling House, formerly Osborne House, 25 Northumberland Street, Alnmouth. The fine restaurant where my wife & I had dinner on our wedding anniversary recently.
I did a closer view of Minerva recently & added some colour. The sculpture depicts the goddess along books, a theatrical mask and an owl.
Minster Gates & High Petergate, York. The c1900 lamp post was damaged by a delivery van in spring 2022 but restored. Minerva meanwhile has presided over the junction since around 1800 after an 18th century revamp of a 14th century building.
41-45 Goodramgate, better known as La Piazza, now La Piazza Antica, back in 2017. It still has a single storey open hall behind the facade & traces of fancy brackets for a canopy over the doorway.
In the evening the students and tutors went on the Theakston's Brewery tour, near where they were staying, in Masham. A chance to practice sketching while listening to the tour guide. The cooper was particularly interesting.
I had almost finished drawing this, Minster Gates corner when I realised I had made it too narrow, setting the width at 6 rows of window panes instead of 7. Cue getting out the bigger eraser and redrawing it all. A good job I was drawing in pencil.
Fountains Abbey, near Ripon, North Yorkshire. The south transept and chapter house doorways. Sketched during a break on a survey teaching course. I stayed behind to watch the equipment while tutors & students went for tea.

A final post from the FB memory bank for 5th September 2017:
Getting close to the end of my afternoon session. Stopped briefly to make Mrs A a cup of tea when she came home from work. Will soon have to prepare for teaching tomorrow.
A memory from FB, 5th September 2017. I posted this:
A busy morning. Time to stop for lunch.
I was apparently trying to keep my nerves under control the day before teaching on a heritage recording course at Fountains Abbey.
We had a good walk around Alnwick & stopped to watch traffic chaos as a coach driver found he could pass through Bondgate, the town gateway licenced by Edward IV in 1480. It had a portcullis slot and gun loops facing would-be visitors.
Alnmouth Board School, 1876. Now the Old School Art Gallery. Some lovely art on display, the Caffe latte & cappuccino were excellent too.
