I can't think of a good answer, which, now I consider it, suggests that I have an irresistible impulse to determine any horrible monster I think of to be definitely real in lore. #SffChat

Eva in Parch Marks is pretty hard-core sceptic with anything supernatural. So she is deeply bemused when the strange fern-shaped parch marks at a site she's been excavating start to appear on her skin, and that of the other archaeologists.
#SFFChat Q3. Well, most "urban legends" are true in one way or another, so hard not to lol There are some cryptids, but again, it might as well be another creature.
#SFFChat Q3:
My MCs Raven and Trig in my books absolutely believe in things. They live in a world where magic exists. Trig is not sure about the rumours of people with round ears though, surely that is completely made up. Humans can't possibly be real, or else they would have seen some by now.
#SFFChat Yes 😅
Bringing up the Jersey Devil again because the aesthetics of Eadmund's appearance were 100% inspired by the Jersey Devil. I took some anthro liberties in his design, and I've been told by friends he's kinda hot LMAO
#SFFChat: Since I referenced this flash fiction in the last one, I'l answer for that.
Bridget believed for grandmother's faerie stories as a kid, less so as she grew up. Now she is having to face just how true they actually were.

#SFFChat Sort of. There's an urban legend about cats standing on your chest as you sleep and breathing in your soul. I was thinking of that as I created Catamorphosis. Except, in my story, the cat is not killing his human.
Bit of a stretch, but my WIP features an antagonist inspired by the Red Queen from the old Resident Evil movie.
It's a rogue "thought-construct" (*cough, magical AI*). I like the idea that any sufficiently advanced magic begins to resemble technology (in addition to the other way around.) #SffChat
I haven't gotten into this in my book series yet, but yes, Mutt is quite superstitious and believes in things like urban legends and "mysterious monsters".
Whether those things actually exist or not is also something that I'm going to have to decide on at some point.
#SFFChat Q3: In the sequel to TETK, my queer horror comedy, the legend of the week is to do with a fictional Alberta cryptid alternately called Catskin and Raccoon Lady. One of the MCs definitely believes in her, as do several secondary characters. D :
#SFFChat Well, yes and no, i guess? As a kid, Tristan's older sisters used to tell him stories of the Grey, a force of evil that would kill/punish ya.
so in that sense, it was an urban legend. but then it turned out the magic was a real thing, so also NOT an urban legend anymore.
#SFFChat A3:
No, none of my characters believe in urban legends (the reason isn’t exciting, I just don’t think of urban legends myself so i didn’t think to make my characters think about them). But two of my characters became urban legends
One of them twice
#SFFChat 2 100% I was inspired by the big mechanical spider in Wild Wild West and the crystalization in Atlantis the Lost Empire; but in a way King Midas and the story of Athena and Arachne. I wanted a big mechanical monster and as a professional Arachnophobe spider shapes were perfect.
#SFFChat Q2:
Too spoilery for TETK 😔, but there's a conversation in The Wings of Ashtaroth during which a bunch of naval officers have a lengthy and humorous chat about giant snakes that's based in part of real (fanciful) Roman accounts of giant serpents.
Hi! I write mainly high fantasy adventures with a sprinkling of horror.
I really have a softspot for the Flatwoods Monster. Such a weird, cool creature design (though presumably terrifying if anywhere in the neighborhood of real). #SffChat
#SFFChat Q3 Do any of your characters believe in any sort of urban legends? Why or why not?
#SFFChat Q2:
I write about demons a lot, but my demons are humanoid most of the time. Or at least, they possess humans and that's how they present
