Writers, what kind of feedback do you actually want from a beta reader?

Plot? Pacing? Characterization? Dialogue? Or just someone to tell you when something isn't working?

I'm always curious what writers find most useful.

No backstory, no context, just the flaw. I'll tell you how it's probably already driving your plot behind the scenes, shaping decisions and conflict whether you planned it that way or stumbled into it by instinct.

Writers, let’s properly meet

So tell me:

✍️ What are you writing?
📚 What’s your favorite genre?
👀 What’s currently taking over your brain in your story?

I want to meet more writers around here!

Writers, let’s talk

What are you working on right now?
What genre do you love most?
And what’s one thing in your story you can’t stop thinking about?

I’m always curious what other writers are creating and happy to swap beta-reader/editor perspectives too.

Writers, what’s one thing about your current book that you could talk about forever?

The character you’re obsessed with? A scene you can’t wait to write? The weird little detail that somehow became important?

I want to hear about it.

Great books don’t happen in one edit.

From developmental edits to line edits, copy edits, and proofreading, each stage helps bring a manuscript closer to its best version.

Not sure which stage your manuscript needs? I’m happy to help.

Your story deserves a fresh set of eyes.

As a beta reader and editor, I help authors spot what they may be too close to see, whether it’s pacing, plot, characters, clarity, or those little details that get lost after countless revisions.

That moment when the random detail from Chapter 4 suddenly makes PERFECT sense.

Nothing beats a story that makes you go, “WAIT… so THAT’S why!”

Authors, what’s your favorite kind of plot reveal?

A sample edit should never be a scaled-down preview. It should be the real thing, just on fewer pages.

If an editor's sample is vague, generic, or barely touches your chapter, that's exactly what the full project will look like too.

It's rarely the prose.
Agents are reading your opening for one thing: urgency. Something has to be at stake right now, not in chapter three.
If nothing feels like it needs to happen immediately, that's usually the actual problem, not a typo, not a clunky sentence.

A beta reader is not an editor! That's the point.
Beta readers give you reactive feedback, their honest, in-the-moment reaction as a reader. Where they got bored. Where they cried. Where they almost put the book down.
Editors give you prescriptive feedback, what to actually do about it.

If an editor doesn't mention a contract or NDA before you send your manuscript, that's worth pausing on.

A contract protects both of you: scope, timeline, price, deliverables. An NDA means your unpublished story stays yours, nobody discusses it, shares it, or uses it without permission.
