Sublime NE GYE Lakes District technically starts W side of 3500-3750m ridge behind Glacier Lakes chain. These 2955m lakes just 6km up steep rocky trail head of Rock Crk. Canyon 2640m. Should include them, which is why flooded w tourists mid June-mid Sept. #climate #hiking #dogs #montana #mountains

do not need a weatherman know which way the wind blows here. Predominantly NW or SE, channeled by the ridge behind. Glacier Lake first view here. Trail drops from a 3050m summit to around the 2955m lake.quite obvious a lot of thinning/recession last 5 years. warmer drier summers and falls mainly to blame. ridgetop there 3550m.can you spot an Otter in Emerald Lake? wind dropped a little in afternoon. love these fall days.could not have asked for nicer day. So proud of both of them, Oso Negro 1m up Whitebark Pine near trail at 3000m. Eating cone seeds. Neither of them barked or growled. Sundance just stayed ahead of me while bear ambled off, Otter next to me. I did apologize to it for the disturbance, they need to eat now!

Headwall of Rock Creek Canyon we are standing on it. Outflow of Glacier Lake, looking SE. There is a dam on this lake but I think there has always been a lake here.the ridge behind Emerald, furthest SE in the Glacier/Little Glacier/Emerald Lakes chain. Lake levels have dropped so they are no longer connected, easier to get around on shorelines now. few day old brown bear scat near here. Oso Negro on descent from Glacier lake. Looking NW up Little Glacier and Glacier Lakes. Beartooth Plateau turns into Hellroaring Plateau back there in middle.First view of Emerald Lake (l), my fav., has nicest color. 4-5C windy Sundance needs swims in all of these, Little Glacier Lake here (r).
