Just had an #RNLI emergency vehicle drive past with full blues and twos. It’s tricky enough negotiating these narrow roads, I wouldn’t want to do it at speed. I read the surf warnings this morning on the beach and dangerous rip tides are mentioned. Hope everyone’s safe.

The RNLI’s willingness to respond should never become an excuse for government to keep expanding what volunteers are expected to do. Goodwill isn’t an infinite resource. #RNLI
11/12
If we’re quietly turning a volunteer charity into another emergency service because the state needs more capacity, let’s have that debate honestly. Don’t hide it behind volunteer goodwill. #RNLI
10/12
The trustees have a difficult job: help people in genuine danger while protecting the volunteers who make the service possible. That balance becomes harder as demands keep increasing. #RNLI
9/12
Supporting the RNLI means protecting its volunteers too. We shouldn’t wait until people are physically or psychologically broken before admitting we’ve asked too much of them. #RNLI
8/12
These volunteers have jobs, families and lives outside the RNLI. They’re not an endless pool of emergency responders who can absorb ever-increasing demands without consequences. #RNLI
7/12
Suicide callouts deserve particular attention too. Repeatedly sending volunteers into traumatic incidents, especially around known suicide hotspots, carries a psychological cost. #RNLI
6/12
We’re asking volunteers to deal with increasingly complex incidents while facing growing political and public hostility. At some point, you have to ask whether that’s sustainable. #RNLI
5/12
Imagine volunteering to save lives, then facing abuse from people who believe you’re providing a taxi service for refugees. Whatever your politics, those volunteers don’t deserve that. #RNLI
4/12
And now volunteers face increasing public hostility, with some portraying the RNLI as little more than a “taxi service” for migrants crossing the Channel. That hostility has consequences. #RNLI
3/12
Every new demand carries a cost. Physical risk is obvious. Psychological harm is less visible, but repeatedly exposing volunteers to traumatic incidents has consequences too. #RNLI
2/12
The Coastguard is a statutory emergency service. The RNLI is a charity powered by volunteers. They work together, but they aren’t interchangeable. That distinction matters. #RNLI
1/12
The RNLI is a volunteer lifeboat service, not an unlimited extension of the state. We need to be very careful how much more we expect volunteers to take on. #RNLI
I stand with the #RNLI
Brave RNLI Volunteers being called scum for risking their lives to save others at sea is just plain wrong. Disgusting.
Pls Sign/RP the Open ✉️ of thanks to the #RNLI PATRIOTS letting them know these thugs do not speak for the rest of us 👌👇
There are no “legitimate concerns” that justify threatening lifesavers because you want them to let people drown. It’s not a “protest” or a “debate”. No government or media outlet should give this sheer hatred a moment’s credence. Call it what it is: racist terrorism & criminal thuggery. #RNLI
If you can, please donate and be part of a lifesaving crew.
