There must be a zillion leaves behind our home all over the grass.
We leave them as they are, while our neighbors spend hours trying to get rid of theirs ..

Slayer Unperceived

By Richard H. Fay

Unseen by human eyes,
I stalk a prey unaware
Of my lethal presence.

Unfelt by human hands,
I hunt well unhindered
By any earthly touch.

Unheard by human ears,
I creep unheralded
Toward my next target.

Unsensed by human minds,
I haunt generations untold
Taking innocent lives.

Unknown to human thoughts,
I slay the unwary,
A plague to earthborn souls.

Text of poem on a photograph of ripples of aqua water:

Boondoggle

Curls bobble.
Knees wobble.
First day of school.

Flakes splatter.
Teeth chatter.
Snow days are cool!

Chairs clatter.
Friends scatter.
Last day of school.

Heads bobble.
Boards wobble.
Dive in the pool!

Switch toggles.
Mind boggles.
It’s back-to-school!

What a piece of work is man —
look at the wonder of our mortal frame:
short sight, arthritis, piles, and acne,
gums are abscessed, cysts inflamed,
impacted wisdom teeth and asthma,
bowel cancer, unnamed pains.
And how could we have been created
by a less than perfect Cause?

What a piece of work is man —
look at our glory, at our splendid ways:
the bodies piled, discarded offal,
raped, their throats slit, set ablaze,
the fragrant smoke an awful signal
of a feast for birds of prey.
And how could we be chance productions,
born of cold, unthinking laws?

What a piece of work is man —
look at the heaven that he’s made of Earth:
the poisoned rivers, flattened forests,
oceans clogged with plastic scurf,
of great apes, elephants, and dolphins,
whales and tigers now a dearth.
And how could we not owe our nature
to the Mighty, Loving Source?

A cinematic wide shot of a rugged North Yorkshire coastline at dusk. In the foreground, jagged, pale limestone formations meet dark, rust-colored ironstone cliffs. The North Sea is a churning charcoal grey, sending explosive white spray against the ancient, weathered stone. In the distance, the skeletal, rusted remains of an old industrial blast furnace stand silhouetted against a bruised, purple-grey sky. The lighting is atmospheric and heavy, highlighting the rough, pitted textures of the rock and the cold, salt-slicked sheen of the shore.
