A three-tiered silver serving tray sat between them, laden with more pastries than two people could be expected to eat. Greek statuettes watched them from the corners of the room through trails of peach and yellow begonias, and sunlight slanted into the room through the glass domed ceiling, bathing everything in glittering white light and making Hadrian’s eyes look glacial blue.
“You’re an asshole,” she announced.
His face lit with glee. “What? Why? I didn’t say you couldn’t have pants.”
She groaned. “Because you fucking exist, Hadrian. You’re an asshole for existing.”
He chuckled and passed her a croissant. “Oh. Well. I’ll try harder not to exist.”
