Bending out of dark, wet cedar duff, a shiny yellow and green mushroom catches some artificial light to help it shine in the dark. This parrot mushroom, Gliophorus psittacinus, has a smooth and slimy yellow stipe that stretches up from the ground to be about two inches tall. Its shiny, conical cap is yellow on the margins but otherwise emerald green. A Happy Day in the Meadow is a portrait-format acrylic painting by the artist Karen Kaspar. Silhouettes of grasses move against an abstract background in vibrant, overlapping colours such as pink, orange and blue-green. The choice of colours and the composition appear lively and abstract, conveying a sense of dynamic movement and cheerfulness. The variety of colours and shapes of the meadow grasses that bloom in the meadows in early summer inspired me to create a series of abstract botanical images on the theme of In the Meadow.
The bark on the end of this branch is worn off from redbill's gnawing. In this shot you get a view of the complicated tongue including the reverse facing "barb" used to pull in food.
