Bit of a happy surprise at one of the restoration sites that I haven't been to in awhile. Thought this pawpaw died over the winter because it's previous main stem didn't sprout. Grew a new stem over the summer, though still some hope. #nativeplants

Large , ovate leaves on a small seedling.

Elythranthera brunonis - Purple Enamel Orchid

The first Purple Enamel Orchid I’ve seen this season in the Perth Hills.

I love the blotched pattern on the backs of this orchid’s sepals and petals.

I'm adding snowberry and twinberry to my landscape. I have a lot of berries: huckleberry, red huckleberry, blueberry, osoberry, serviceberry, haskap, raspberry, and blackberry, #NativePlants except blueberry.

An Oak Tree a Day
Or, a dump of sorts. Not really a special tree, but one that I wouldn’t have noticed if this cute dog wasn’t doing an over the shoulder side eye (yes, I know that it’s a coyote.) Also, sad attempt at getting the underside of a mushroom. California #nativePlants #nature zen garden

A smallish oak tree behind a post and cable fence that separates the urban landscape from the natural area. There are many branches jutting out from the lower trunk giving the tree a V shape. There is planted green groundcover in the foreground with a sprinkler head poking up. The sky is clear and blue above a slope dotted with native green shrubs and trees. A coyote looks over its shoulder as it returns to the open space apparently disturbed by my ICE/coyote whistle. I only do this to make them afraid of people. We don’t need complacent predators in our neighborhoods. That goes for ICE tooStuck my phone in the understory trying to get an upshot of this mushroom but instead got sky, water drops and a tiny portion of cream colored gills. iPhone photography still in progress. A little purple zen planter using a finger in a shushing gesture with succulents as hair among some other succulent plants and a rock in a garden setting.

Peaceful stonian horsefly, Stonemyia tranquilla on dried flowerheads of white meadowsweet. Unlike most horseflies, these ones do not suck blood, hence the peaceful name. They are pollinators but little else is known about their lives.

Is there anything more exciting than 1st blooms from a new #NativePlants species in our garden? Nope! Verbesina alternifolia (Wingstem) blooms until 1st frost, host plant for Silvery Checkerspot & Summer Azure #butterflies, Xerces special value for #pollinators plant.
