2 Oct 1942 // HM Trawler Lord Stonehaven, part of the escort for a westbound coastal convoy from the Solent, was torpedoed and sunk by German torpedo boat S.112 at about 1am, near the Eddystone lighthouse. 18 men lost their lives. #RoyalNavy #WW2 #NavalHistory

2 Oct 1942 // Cruiser HMS Curacoa was rammed and sunk by RMS Queen Mary while she was escorting the liner north of Ireland. The Queen Mary, carrying US troops, was at full speed and cut Curacoa in half. 337 men were killed in this tragic accident. (IWM image: A 5807) #RoyalNavy #NavalHistory #WW2
