I’m proud to support the #RNLI, a charity that has the sole purpose of saving lives at sea and I’m appalled at the abuse directed at volunteers who risk their lives to save others.

“Help! My children are drowning!” “Sorry, mate, you’re brown.” Who wants to live in a country where people don’t go to the rescue of men, women and children in danger of losing their lives? The racists do. Please support the wonderful RNLI rnli.org/support-us/g...

Weymouth Lifeboat station welcomed my school party every year to visit the #RNLI lifeboat and hear about their valuable voluntary work saving lives.

When #RNLI lifeboat crews are tasked by HM Coastguard to people in danger they will respond at any time of day or night, without judgement or preference and go to their aid just like generations of #lifeboat crews have done before them, in wartime and peace.

I've been donating monthly to the #RNLI for some time now. I've met a few of them and along with a lot of first responders and mountain rescue, they're amongst the best of us.

And I wish I was still on Twitter to tell the Gammons that every time they antagonise the RNLI, I send them another tenner.

I don’t mean this as an insult or allegation, but I suspect the #RNLI is NOT the most ethnically diverse organisation out there

Is it beyond #R4Today to ask racist PCCs, councillors or MPs why these particular “White Lives Don’t Matter”?

@marlyrocks.bsky.socialSep 10, 2026, 8:14 AM

www.bbc.co.uk/news/article... Disgusting behaviour by cowardly thugs! Why aren't they being arrested? Why hasn't the patron of the #RNLI voiced his concerns and condemned the thugs?! 😡

I have huge respect and gratitude for #RNLI and their dedicated volunteers, staff, and supporters. Their commitment to saving all lives at sea should be celebrated.

A rounded tin in the shape of a lifeboat station. On the top there are letters reading RNLI Saving Lives at Sea.

Leave the #RNLI out of this! They are volunteers risking lives to save others regardless of who they are. They are all #Heroes.

That RNLI volunteers are being attacked is disgraceful. Action must be taken to track those online who are doing so and they should be held to account. And what of Reform - are they condemning these actions?

I don’t know how anyone can be on the opposing side to these brave volunteers and not do at least a little self-reflection. #RNLI #r4today #SmallBoats

Love 💙💙💙 #RNLI

I’m writing to you – a loyal RNLI supporter – following the recent events in the media that have generated deliberate misinformation and misunderstanding about the RNLI and our lifesaving work in the Channel.

Sadly, as a result, some of our volunteers and staff have been the subject of online and, in the worst cases, physical abuse. The RNLI’s people represent the very best in our society – they selflessly give up their time to keep others safe. Yet they and their families are being threatened by those who would hide behind a balaclava or a keyboard. These actions are wholly unacceptable in a civilised society. We will take whatever steps we can to care for and protect our people and their families.

The RNLI is an apolitical organisation. We are completely independent of government, powered by remarkable, kind people like you. For over 200 years, in all weathers, in peace and war, the RNLI and our amazing volunteers and staff have selflessly dedicated themselves to rescuing people they have never met before, without judgement, fear or favour.

When the coastguard tasks a RNLI lifeboat crew to launch to a vessel or people in distress, we will always answer the call, whoever needs our help. It is a legal and moral obligation under the United Nations Convention of the Law of the Sea and SOLAS (Safety of Life at Sea). Courage is the RNLI’s currency. Dependable, loyal, service to others and our nations is our hallmark.

RNLI lifeboats were tasked by the coastguard and launched 9,058 times in 2025. 109 of those launches were to those in distress in the Channel, representing 1.2 per cent of the RNLI’s total rescue work. Nearly 95 per cent of those who crossed the English Channel in small boats last year – one of the busiest shipping lanes in the world – were picked up by the UK Border Force.

‘I am extremely proud of – and grateful for – their vital lifesaving work’
