A female Great Tailed Grackle standing on a boardwalk in an urban park. She has a dark brown body, brown beak, and a very light breast, throat, nape, and belly with dark speckles. She's looking to her right so her head is 90 degrees to her body. Most female Grackles had much darker coloring across most of their body so she stood out as one with very light plumage.

A killdeer chick pauses on a rock while wading along the shoreline of a pond at a nature area in Longmont, Colorado.

In this vertical color photograph, a killdeer chick fills the frame in right profile as it walks along the water’s edge. The upper half of the composition features the pond’s calm surface, reflecting the blue sky above, while the foreground reveals a rocky shoreline dotted with green algae.

A beautiful wildlife portrait capturing a young killdeer in its natural wetland habitat, an ecosystem vital to the species’ survival.
A juvenile Yellow Crowned Night Heron that is standing well away from the shore of a wetland as he watched many other shore birds hunting and unsure if he was allowed to join in. His parents still fed him, so he hasn't learned yet that he is always welcome at the edge of the water for grabbing a fish or frog for lunch.

photo of a killdeer with their back to the camera, tail half fanned, wings slightly out, they are looking to the right in profile.
A small flock of sandpipers gathers at the edge of the surf on a wide, sandy beach in Bandon, Oregon. The birds are scattered across the wet sand, with many of them bending down to probe the shoreline for food. Their figures, along with the gentle blue ocean waves rolling in from the top of the frame, cast soft reflections on the damp, glistening surface.
A grey-and-black hooded crow stands in profile, facing left, on a greyish rocky and yellow-brown seaweed-strewn shore. In his black beak is a piece of toast or croissant that he'd stolen from one of the local cafes. His head is only slightly angled forward as his black eye scans the area for other crows or seagulls that might try to steal his breakfast. He has the signature black head and neck bib, black wings and tail, and black legs, while the rest of his back and breast are a varied slate grey. He is squatting lower than normal instead of standing straight as he tries to go unnoticed.
