Well, folks, we’re all gonna die. But big deal. I’m so fucking macho, I laugh at death! Here, let me prove it to you. Come here, death, right up to my face!

See, everybody. How I look directly into this face, this face of death! Now watch. Watch as I spit, spit directly into this face. Ptoo! (spits) See that? So who cares!? Not convinced? Then watch and I’ll show you. See the face of death that I’m holding and facing? Watch as I laugh in its face, laugh directly in its face. HA! Hahahahahaha! See? Told you.

Doing it, Tron style

Well, that is the way it comes across: “Apocalypse? Let me show you how tough I am.” Not, “What can we do about it, to stop it?”

So, dear listeners, are you able to make out the distress beneath such pronouncements? Granted, this bravado is worthless as to either reversing apocalypse or even showing some sort of inspired vision in which it can be made acceptable or noble if not avoidable. For those who do not see it yet, in this chapter I try a little fantasy dialogue to bring out what I think is going on, much of the time, and keeping us from acting rationally about this imminent emergency of all dire emergencies possible.

"Growing evidence suggests that extreme precipitation increases over most regions globally as the climate warms. However, it remains poorly understood how the fraction of annual precipitation from extreme events changes due to warming-induced alteration of both annual and extreme precipitation patterns. Understanding such changes is crucial for water resources and agricultural planning and management. Here, we propose the Extreme Precipitation Dependency Index (EPDI), a robust metric to quantify the relative contribution of extreme precipitation to annual totals under a warming climate. Using both climate model projections and observational data sets, we find that EPDI increases considerably beyond the UN's mitigation targets, with many global land regions experiencing a 15%–20% rise at 4°C warming. Hotspots include the African Sahel, Southeast Asia, Northern Australia, and the Amazon. Observations reveal that many regions are already experiencing increases in extreme precipitation contributions at rates exceeding model projections. We further explore the implications of these trends on rain-fed agriculture, reservoir operations, and ecosystem health. Our analysis indicates that 54%–96% of global rain-fed croplands may be adversely affected, alongside significant risks to boreal forests."
This paragraph is on overall precipitation increases and by what it is constrained:

This “vegetable” eruption always happens suddenly and climactically, and almost always it results in death. Scenes like this I have observed in the movie “Jacob’s Ladder,” several times on the hit show The X Files, and in many, many other shows.

Gag Me With a Toxin.

This version of suffocation probably has its roots in the force- feeding of toxic elements to the fetus in the womb through the umbilical cord, and is more definitely related — the symbol is probably an amalgamation of both feelings — to the ungentle clearing of fluids from the neonate’s mouth by the attendants immediately after birth.

This latter connection — the ungentle mouth cleaning of birth fluids — I can personally validate through my own primal experiences. Apparently I was not alone in being treated this way as a newborn in the 1940s and 1950s in America ... hence its popularity.

…full implications of our situation, as I have described it in the last few chapters. For compartmentalizing implies access if wanted.

No, these other folks are actively blocking out the information that might counter their denial. Trump and his supporters could not be better examples of this current tendency to want to block out facts and substitute “alternative facts” — i.e., lies — to aid one in one’s denial.

We have climate deniers now, who are going around saying we have no problem with global warming. No, they say, that is all a story by some bad folks who just want to control us. Donald Trump has currently become the epitome of this twisted thinking.

To which I think, seriously, how convenient. How convenient to proclaim there is not a problem when the dilemma if faced would seem hopeless. How easy, then, to scratch away, rummaging for snippets, misconstructions of facts, words taken out of context, and the delusionary fabrications of others doing the same to concoct a conspiracy that would get oneself, and one’s conscience, off the hook. More than that, which would rationalize our current tendencies, wrought of our flawed upbringings, to brutalize and rape the Earth, extracting all we can for our own benefit, consequences be damned. Is it not obvious these folks are engaging in desperate wish fulfillment?

It has become so much a part of our daily lives, in fact, that we hardly give it any thought anymore. When it is brought to our attention, some of us are likely to snicker at its incongruence with our normal fare of information. Others will smugly deride our messengers of it, intimating that these sensitivities are part of another age, long since gone beyond; that they are quaint or are anachronisms from the Fifties and Sixties, compared to which they assume they are so much more enlightened.

If You’re Not Alarmed, You’re Not Paying Attention

Regardless, these things are even more pressing and catastrophic than when they were first brought to light. The ridiculously horrendous dangers of The Bomb, rallied about in the Fifties, are immensely magnified since then. We have four times more weapons today than 1955, at the heyday of the Ban the Bomb movement. And they are eighty to…

Graphic showcasing Bioplastics Week, which is Sept 28 - October 4. Bioplastics are a growing family of materials made from renewable sources that can help diversify feedstocks, reduce carbon impact, and contribute to a more circular plastics economy.

At CMA, we believe in the power of innovation to drive sustainability. Bioplastics are biobased and/or compostable, and engineered for performance (either durable or fast moving). They are a sustainable material of choice that work alongside traditional plastics to expand possibilities and reduce environmental impact.
