1/2 Here's the villa where the van Trapp family lived before they left Austria. Not a great photo, I took it in 1988. We were at the gazebo used in the "I am Sixteen..." song in The Sound of Music.

A faded old photo taken in Salzburg, Austria There's a pond in the foreground, & on the other side of the lake is the elegant villa where the van Trapp family (The Sound of Music) lived until they escaped Nazi-occupied Austria. We visited places that are in the film. We didn't get any closer to the villa & some of my fellow travelers danced in the gazebo. The pond is between the house & the gazebo.

Visitors make their way up the final steps from the valley below in preparation for their visit to Eisriesenwelt, the largest ice cave in the world. Located south of Salzburg in the Austrian Alps, the cave offers tours during parts of the year. In the photo, people rest on the rocks at the entrance and view the mountains stretching out into the distance. A concrete roof on the left side protects visitors on the last portion of the climb from falling rock.
