My #TIFF26 day: Look Back, Everytime, Ink, packing up.

'La bola negra' representará a España en los Óscar. Vemos el paso de la película por el #TIFF26 de Toronto y compartimos la crítica de @agusgcascales.bsky.social, en que analiza por qué es una película tan bella y necesaria, que conecta con todo tipo de público. shangay.com/2026/09/16/b...

HOW WE STAND - Admired the film for its attempt to color outside the lines. Adapted by Marie Clements from her own play, it confronts recent Indigenous history while striving to be genuinely cinematic, especially in its leaps toward magical realism. Mileage will vary, but I admired it. #TIFF26 📽️

A close-up film still shows a young woman with dark hair staring intently ahead while holding up a lit lighter, its flame softly illuminating her face against a dark background.A group of people stands on a stage in front of a large movie screen displaying film credits. The individuals are dressed in a variety of casual and formal attire, appearing to participate in a Q&A or panel discussion following a screening.

Unsurprisingly LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, BRIAN MULRONEY is probably the most Canadian movie ever made. Nostalgic (certainly for me), funny as hell, creative, and pertinent as hell. The only un-Canadian thing about it is how unapologetic it is in its portrayal of its subject. #TIFF26

ONCE UPON A TIME IN HARLEM - One of the most memorable films of 2026 was… made in 1972? So it is. A miracle of preservation, dropping us into Duke Ellington’s house as Harlem Renaissance luminaries debate, converse & get a little tipsy. My, what conversation. And what a cultural treasure. #TIFF26 📽️

A man in a vibrant red turtleneck gestures energetically with a drink in hand while an older woman in a patterned teal blouse reacts from the foreground.Three people sit on a stage during a panel discussion in front of a large film festival screen featuring the Rogers logo and partial text reading "FILM Fest." A man in the center speaks into a microphone, flanked by a woman in a dark suit on the left and a woman in a blue blouse on the right.

Brash and brimming with bravado, #Ink is Danny Boyle at his bombastic best. Embracing the punk rock attitude of Trainspotting to tell the story of the rise of Rupert Murdoch’s media empire, it’s like The Social Network on acid, set amid the backdrop of 1960s Fleet Street. #TIFF26

BITTER CHRISTMAS - My most anticipated film of #TIFF26 may not have lived up to my sky-high expectations, but any new Pedro Almodóvar movie is a vibrant, must-see event (even if minor). A fascinating exploration of creativity’s destructive nature and the cost of turning others’ lives into art. 📽️

A middle-aged man with silver hair and a beard, wearing a yellow t-shirt and glasses, sits at a desk working on an Apple laptop. Behind him is a large, vibrant red bookshelf packed with books and a few small decorative items.

TENZING: In DEEP IMPACT/ARMAGEDDON terms, the first of TIFF's two Mount Everest movies is firmly in the Mimi Leder camp — conventional, well-cast polite period piece that aims for the heart more than the eye. Why Apple made a mountain flick that you'll watch on a phone is their business. #TIFF26

WILD HORSE NINE: Malkovich is great in The White Lotus: Easter Island — and Buscemi gets one killer line — but this isn’t nearly as airtight as McDonagh might think. I do enjoy, though, a film-festival-tilted movie that baldly declares its love for Venice, over and over. #TIFF26

Revenge may NOT be a dish best served cold in “We are born good” at #tiff26 Really well constructed, twisty first feature from HK director Leung Cheung Yeung. Excellent acting, casting, pacing and cooking (you may end up hungry). Highly recommended #tiff
